Jerry Park

A passion for sports and a passion for people. Jerry Park was the excellent broadcaster who could communicate so honestly to his viewers, and at the same time be so enthusiastic about his story. Jerry always had the ability to make the story real, and yet make it really interesting.

Jerry graduated from Texas Christian University and began his career in radio. He moved to television in the late 60's. By the early 70's Jerry was doing both News and Sports along with PR for KDFW TV, Dallas, and then WFAA TV, also in Dallas. In July of 1974 Jerry became the Sports Director at KOCO TV 5 in Oklahoma City, a job he held until his retirement in 1999.

During his 25 year run at KOCO TV, Jerry earned numerous AP and UPI awards. But probably the highest honors he received were from fellow broadcasters and competitors who universally proclaimed Jerry to be the consummate professional. As one Hall of Fame member so aptly said, “Jerry's passion for his work and his compassion for those he worked with speaks volumes about his character.”

While Jerry was at the top of his game as a sports broadcaster, he also gave back to the community and his profession. Over 80 students interned under Jerry, and for over 22 years he was an extremely successful adjunct professor of Sports Broadcasting at the University of Central Oklahoma teaching and training the next generation of broadcasters. Because to Jerry, broadcasting has always been a business about the people and how you relate to them.
